Lachlan wins short story competition!
Well done to one of our pupils, Lachlan, who won the Dragonfly Tea Short Story Competition 2016 set for all pupils to enter over the Summer. Lachlan won 1st place in 4-7 age group! He also won a £50 book voucher for himself, plus a £100 book voucher for St. Piran's!
Dragonfly Tea is a family-owned tea company and this was the second year that thy have worked in partnership with the Henley Literary Festival to run their short story competition. For 2016, Dragonfly Tea invited budding young writers to enter a short story of up to 500 words, based on the theme of Adventure.
Lachlan's story received wonderful feedback from the judges. David Melling said: "The first line opens beautifully. It sets the scene and makes you want to read on..." Baroness Floella Benjamin said: "It was so good I made my husband come and read it. It needed to be shared! Totally unpredictable and it made me want to be a part of the adventure."

We will be celebrating all things Disney in our Book Week from Monday 30th January! After last year's Shakespeare theme, we thought we would focus on the fairy tales and famous stories which Disney have brought to life through their animations, such as Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and Finding Dory. The aim of the week is encourage pupils to develop their love of reading, dreaming, laugher and imagination. Pupils will experience musical workshops, performance poetry, reading, creative writing, our annual handwriting competition, and of course, a special character dress-up day!
Swimmers' success at Swimarathon!
Over 120 swimmers and supporters turned out on Saturday 7th January to the annual Swimarathon at the Magnet Leisure Centre! Our St Piran's team swam a total of 1206 lengths, which equates to over 18 miles! The event is run by the Lions Club, their biggest fundraising event of the year, and our children were complimented on their enthusiasm and great swimming. Our parent team captains were as organised as ever and managed to keep us going for our hour in the pool. We wait to hear our total amount of sponsorship raised, but we hope to have reached our target of £4000. Thanks to everyone who got involved in the Swimarathon!
Happy New Year!
Happy 2017 to everyone! Easter Term begins on Wednesday 11th January. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school after the Christmas break.
