E-Safety

The Internet is an essential element in 21st century life for education, business and social interaction. The school has a duty to provide pupils with quality Internet access as part of their learning experience.

St Piran’s School wishes to ensure that our children are able to use the Internet and related communications technologies appropriately and safely.

We aim to create a safe learning environment to ensure that everyone is aware of the issues and how they impact upon the school environment and the pupils within the school.

Pupils are:

-
taught what Internet use is acceptable and what is not and given clear objectives for Internet use.

-
educated in the effective use of the Internet for research, including the skills of knowledge location, retrieval and evaluation, including adherence to Copyright laws.

-
shown how to keep themselves safe when online.

-
asked to sign an Acceptable Use of IT policy, which details the rules that pupils must follow when using school devices on which they can access the Internet. This form is counter-signed by their parents.

We also have a Safe Use of the Internet policy.

E-Safety Education

We introduce e-Safety to the children by:

-
embedding e-Safety within the IT scheme of work and discussing safe use of the Internet regularly during IT and PSHCE lessons,

-
posting Internet safety rules in rooms where computers are used

-
developing a programme of training in e-Safety, including Internet Safety talks and Safer Internet Day.

As part of our programme of education we arrange for an Internet Safety expert to come to talk to parents and children on an annual basis.
